- Route description Brändö
The section from Torsholma to Åva follows Brändö’s characteristic reddish asphalt road and winds through a chain of islands. The route offers a varied archipelago landscape where the sea, rocky shores, bridges, causeways and idyllic villages create a beautiful rhythm along the way.
From Torsholma pier (Torsholma brygga) to Brändö village (8.6 km)
The route begins at Torsholma’s old harbour, known as Torsholma brygga or Norrviken. Follow Norrviksvägen for about 600 metres, then turn right onto Brändövägen, the island’s main road. Continue cycling along this quiet country road for about 8 kilometres to Brändö village.
Along the way you pass the villages of Torsholma and Baggholma, surrounded by rolling farmland, green forest sections and many sea views via causeways, bridges and coastal stretches. For a break, you can walk the Jåsholm Nature Trail (approx. 3 km), which offers beautiful views over the sea and untouched archipelago forest. Just before the church village you will also find the Korsklobbsrevet accessible beach, a pleasant place to rest and take a swim in the sea.
From Brändö village to Åva ferry terminal (12.5 km)
Continue north from the church village along Brändövägen. After about 2.8 km, turn right onto Åvavägen, which leads to Åva harbour after another 9.8 km.
On this section the settlements become more sparse, while the natural surroundings grow richer. The road runs through quiet forests and small fields. The northern part of the route offers particularly impressive sea views from bridges and causeways. Along the way you will find Åva village harbour, with more than 30 traditional red boathouses typical of the Åland archipelago.
